the somagram (concept)
There was a moment over the weekend where I realised how neurotic I have been over recent years. Trying to remember and write everything down. I'd have the all the note-taking apps, streamlined to be as productive as possible.
But the way things are going with artificial intelligence. It won't be long until we can just move imaginary holograms around, working without even text and speech. We'll sliding things as we need them into holographic folders in a way that feels tactile and interactive.
I thought to myself: well, why can’t I just do that myself anyway? When I have a download of insight, why not imagine what it would look like in real life if it were holographic. Touch it, move it around, put it into a folder, and label it with a tag in my own imagination. And then place it there with the intention of remembering it when I need it.
Not only that, but then trusting that the body holds everything. The body remembers everything. We usually see that as a negative thing, as with trauma, but if the body can hold trauma, why can’t it hold positive things and the things we want to remember?
After putting this insight (or whatever it is we want to keep) into that imagined space, we bring our hands to the heart space and breathe into it. We set the intention for it to stay with us, trusting that it will resurface when needed. We hold that somatic feeling of the insight itself, right in the body, trusting it will come back when we need it.
We trust it will come back as somatic memory when we need it, and visualise it like a hologram. I call it a "somagram."
